Polls suggest that Texas Governor Greg Abbott enjoys a positive level of support for his border policy, as his office remains at odds with the Biden administration over the use of barbed wire. Exclusive polling conducted for Redfield News Week & Wilton Strategies reports that Abbott has 51 percent support among Texas voters to continue putting up barbed wire on the border. The survey was conducted Feb. 1-3 among 814 eligible voters in Texas. The Supreme Court ruled in January that federal border agents could be allowed to access key areas along the Rio Grande, the border with Mexico, and cut the razor wire installed by Abbott. The Biden administration says it is preventing its agents from accessing important areas and has begun cutting cables, but Texas is still preventing access to Eagle Pass in the Shelby Park area.
